Mosaics are regularly used for tiling of swimming pool. Have you wondered why these beautiful mosaics are being used so often compared to other materials? Aesthetics is not the only aspect to consider. This trend has also been favoured by the excellent technical properties of glass mosaics: unalterable colours, its high resistance to cold and heat, flexibility of application in curves... An almost eternal decoration that works perfectly in interior and exterior areas as well as spaces in permanent contact with water such as swimming pools, baths and spas, floors, wall coating… A surprising durability.
Recycled glass mosaics series are made of molten glass. Molten glass characteristics may include irregular edges and small variations in size. These characteristics are inherent in the mosaics. The small size and shape variations can augment the grout joint appearance and enhance the natural aspect of these mosaics.
Here are some awesome reasons why buyers prefer to use mosaics to finish their swimming pools. Mosaics can also be installed on interior and exterior areas and in wet and dry locations.
1) Vast Selection of Colours
When mosaics are chosen to finish the pool, the first thing you will discover is that there are enormous variety of colours available.
2) Custom Colour Mix
Most buyers are very imaginative and usually want to create their own colour mix. Most mosaic manufacturers have available tools (eg. Mosaic Creator, Mix Generator, etc.) to enable them to select and customize their own design, colours and including personalised patterns from the extensive catalogues.
3) Ecological and Sustainable Mosaics
Nowadays, mosaic factories care more about the environment. This is why 98% recycled glass mosaics are now more commonly used and readily available.
4) Personalise Images with Digital Prints on Glass Mosaics
With endless design possibilities, the latest advances include a higher definition printing, colour intensity or even gold printing. This increases the quality which most demanding designers, decorators and buyers consider it as an interesting way for a total customization.
Below is a short summary of the Mosaic Laying Process
PREPARATION OF THE BASE
The base on which the laying will be effected, must be perfectly smooth, uniform and white. A different colour damages the aesthetic look of the final result.
THE GLUEING OPERATION
White C2 glue, as per EN12004, must be used. By using the smooth side of the trowel, the glue has to be spreadout uniformly on the base (2m2 approximately). By using the jagged side of the trowel, comb the glue.
THE LAYING OF MOSAIC TILES
Adhere the sheet to the surface by pressing with a rubber trowel. It is important to make sure that the distance between one sheet and another is the same as the one among the tesseras so that all the joints look alike. We suggest to join the sheets when it comes to laying.
GROUTING
Joints must be clean, dry and free from dust. The remains of adhesive, after laying, must be removed while it is still fresh. Using grouting paste, spread it out with a rubber trowel.
CLEANING
Let it dry until the paste gets brightless, superficially, and then proceed to clean it with a sponge soaked in water. Once it gets dry, remove it with a dry cloth.
